Ecotourism in Puglia: What does ‘positive travel’ mean?
‘Positive travel’ means less negative impacts on the environment and more positivity for everyone, from the local communities you visit to yourself and your fellow travellers. Far from the circuits of mass tourism, tourist traps and the glossy landscapes you see in travel brochures, there is a small community of independent operators and dreamers who believe in the vision of a tourism in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
Our goal is to show you the most enchanting and hidden corners of Puglia and let you connect with the small local realities, not only to give you a more authentic experience, but also to help sustainable tourism grow in our region. A tourism in which, at the end of the journey, we all gain.

SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
We use only green means of transport: trains, electric mini-cars using clean energy and, of course, our legs. What could be better, after all? We travel in small mixed groups to live an authentic human experience. The GOAL is to support the development of public transport and alternative, greener means of transport in the local community.
LOCAL GUIDES
Positive travel means travelling with local guides and also visiting places outside the traditional tourist circuits: small medieval villages, rural and natural landscapes, fortified farms and organic farms. During our cultural visits we meet local associations committed to preserving our natural and cultural heritage. The GOAL is to support local projects and promote the preservation of our landscape, nature and artistic heritage.
VEG-FRIENDLY AND LOCAL
We support vegetarian- and vegan-friendly establishments. With its vast production of fruit and vegetables, Puglia is a paradise for vegetarians! The traditional cuisine – the so-called poor cuisine – is based on the diet of the farmers of the past: vegetables, cereals, legumes and fruit. Not surprisingly, traditional dishes such as broad beans and chicory or orecchiette with broccoli rabes (rapini) are the result of the hard work of the land. To help you understand this, we visit organic farms and street markets together. We are also committed to fighting food waste by following the advice of our grandmothers who are familiar with the poverty of yesteryear. Our GOAL is to encourage and support local organic farming, natural food and vegetarian and vegan shops and restaurants.
PLASTIC-FREE
We recommend that you bring a reusable water bottle with you on your trip to Puglia. If you forget it or don't have one, it's no problem: we'll give it to you! Along our routes we make plenty of stops at the typical fountains of the Pugliese aqueduct where you can get fresh water of excellent quality free of charge. We are committed to combatting the excessive use of plastics in our environment by explicitly asking to avoid the use of straws, plastic glasses and plastic bottles. The GOAL is to make operators aware of the consumption of plastic in our region and to radically reduce it.
ECO-FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATION
We are very happy to advise you on facilities and accommodation that reflect our sustainability philosophy in terms of location, services and corporate policy. Tourism and accommodation can boost our country's economy; however, resorts and large hotel chains are often managed from abroad and do not always contribute to the development of the local community. Choosing local, eco-friendly accommodation therefore becomes doubly important. The GOAL is to support local companies committed to a green and sustainable form of tourism.

Because we are a small, local, independent tourist agency. We are a group of friends and professionals with a great passion for change, sustainable lifestyle and responsible consumption. Tourism for us is a welcome exchange of ideas and good practices but, above all, change for the better for ourselves, for Puglia and for our community. We like to be with our guests in an informal, simple and genuine atmosphere, almost like among friends but with complete mutual respect. We like the idea that tourism is a moment of leisure, genuine discovery and opportunities for mutual enrichment.
Puglia is the region where we at Positive Puglia were born and raised. A lush land of authentic and genuine flavours and whose rural and culinary traditions are linked to the slow rhythms of the land, traditions which appear more and more current today than ever.
Thanks to its geographical position in the Mediterranean, Puglia has always been a crossroads of peoples and cultures, a meeting place between different worlds, a melting pot of cultures, religions and history for us to discover together along our itinerary.
Puglia is not only pretty trulli houses, gorgeous seaside and quaint baroque villages, but also stunning rock and natural habitats, beautiful medieval villages and hidden rural landscapes. All this makes Puglia the place we love, a place projected towards a better future by treasuring its past.

I am Pietro, founder of Positive Puglia. A bit for fun, a bit for passion, a few years ago I started working as a tour guide in traditional tourism. Later I opened my own sustainable travel agency catering to small groups of travellers. Being a passionate traveller myself, showing my land to travellers from all over the world has always been my greatest passion, a passion that has allowed me to contribute – in my own small way – to the support of my local community. Since my university days I have always aspired to live a more sustainable lifestyle and achieve a more conscious way of doing tourism. I dreamed of opening a sustainable and self-sufficient farm where I could show everyone that another way of life is possible! I knew that revising our way of living, consuming and travelling was a necessary act but somehow I didn't really feel prepared – or maybe not mature and aware enough – to face these changes and integrate them into my working life. Over the years I have increased my awareness and met like-minded people. And it was then that I told myself that travelling is not only a way to support but also, above all, to change a community in a positive way! Hence the idea of founding Positive Puglia!
